Index price

Part of the theme Derivatives and contracts.

Definition

The index price is an average of the underlying asset's spot price across several major markets, representing its external fair value.

It is deliberately hard to manipulate because it aggregates many venues. The mark price is built from the index price so that valuations and liquidations reflect the real market.
