Livepeer is the first completely decentralized live video streaming network protocol. For all new and current broadcaster organizations, the platform intends to become a viable blockchain-based and cost-effective alternative to centralized broadcasting systems.
Livepeer differs from standard video streaming platforms such as YouTube in that it does not host, store, or distribute video. Rather, Livepeer is developing a solution that makes use of unused CPU capacity to let broadcasters and users share video more effectively.
The Livepeer Token (LPT) is the Livepeer network's protocol token. However, it is not a token exchange medium. Therefore, broadcasters on the Ethereum network use Ether (ETH) to broadcast video. LPT is a staking token that network participants stake in order to coordinate how work is distributed on the network and to ensure that work is done correctly.
