Bitcoin Cash (BCH) is a proof-of-work blockchain network and cryptocurrency that is faster and less expensive to use than Bitcoin (BTC). It is created via a hard fork of the Bitcoin blockchain network, as a response to Bitcoin's transaction speed concerns.
BCH seeks to address transaction performance concerns by raising block sizes to between 8 and 32 megabytes, allowing more transactions to be processed each block. At the time Bitcoin Cash was proposed, the average number of transactions per block on Bitcoin was between 1,000 and 1,500. During a stress test in September 2018, the volume of transactions on Bitcoin Cash's blockchain increased to 25,000 per block.
